How will I know if I can get my deposit back once I’ve paid the rent?

Upon renting a property you need to pay a deposit to the landlord, this payment is for security against damaged property. It is required for the landlord to protect your deposit under a Government approved ‘Deposit Protection Scheme’. This program will provide safety of the money and to ensure that it can be returned to the owner at the end of the tenancy provided that there have been no records of any damages to the property by the tenant.

The landlord is obliged to protect your deposited money within 30 days and he must provide an evidence of the deposit protection, this program can also be called a ‘Prescribed Information’. The information details provide you with instructions on how you can get your money back at the end of the tenancy.
