What does the terms “Jointly and Severally Liable” Mean?

Within the tenancy agreement are the terms “Jointly and severally liable”, this is to identify tenants who share responsibilities and obligations to the agreed contract before the start of tenancy.

This literally means a joint responsibility between tenants occupying the same property, thus for instances that one fails to comply the terms of the agreement then all other tenants are also reliable for the shortfall.

The tenancy agreement is intended to legally bind the contract between the landlord and the tenants. When approving to the agreement with a partner, group of friends, family members, and even people you don’t know make sure everybody is aware that they are also obliged to share fees and other responsibilities within the timeframe of tenancy.
